What Is The Relation Between Vomiting and Pregnancy in Women

Vomiting is very common in pregnancy. It is considered to be a symptom of pregnancy as well. Nausea and vomiting is the most unpleasant thing in the world but pregnant women have got to deal with it. However, vomiting in pregnancy is common and all women experience it. Some women also experience severe vomiting, these women are said to have hyperemesis gravidarum.

The cause of feeling nauseated during pregnancy is unknown. However, one most common cause is morning sickness.

Morning Sickness 

This is said to be one cause of vomiting. This doesn’t mean that vomiting occurs in the morning. It can happen during the day or night. What causes morning sickness also remains unknown but it is most probably caused due to the hormonal changes. Morning sickness occurs to those women who are at the sixth week of their pregnancy.

However in some cases, women suffer from morning sickness throughout their pregnancy. Morning sickness is very common out of all other conditions during pregnancy.

This is because in many cases women don’t even know they are pregnant. They get to know about it when morning sickness occurs repeatedly and they go for a test. Therefore, we can say that it is the most common symptom of pregnancy which includes nausea and vomiting.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum 

Apart from morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum is another thing to worry about for pregnant ladies. When the vomiting reaches an extreme and excessive level, it is known as hyperemesis gravidarum. In the case of morning sickness, a women just vomits once throughout the day.

However, in this case, pregnant women may experience vomiting three to four times a day which is too much and sometimes they also have to throw up to get rid of nausea due to hormone changes. A single vomit can make you feel weak, imagine how would it feel to have hyperemesis gravidarum.

This can lead to an excessive weight loss among women. Moreover, it leads to dehydration because your body is unable to keep liquids because of excessive vomiting. Apart from that, it can also cause dizziness and laziness. This happens to females who are between their ninth to thirteenth week of pregnancy.

Foodborne illnesses

This is another cause of vomiting in pregnancy. This happens because of the intake of contaminated food during this period. This risks the health of women because during pregnancy they don’t have a strong immune system. This illness itself is very sickening and it gives rise to headaches as well.

Not only that, other part of your body might start to ache. To get rid of this illness, it’s better to eat fully cooked meat.


  1. Always eat healthy food to avoid morning sickness. Don’t leave your stomach empty.
  2. Drinking ginger water can relieve nausea.
  3. Don’t expose yourself to bad smells or sights that can trigger nausea.
  4. Don’t stay dehydrated. Give your body the hydration it needs.
  5. If nothing helps, see your doctor and take anti-vomiting medicines as prescribed by your doctor.
  6. If these medications don’t work, you may need a steroid treatment.
